Montreal Games Incubator Creating Opportunities to “Go Indie”

Montreal, CA – March 12, 2013 – Mobile gaming incubator and accelerator Execution Labs today said that it is creating more room in its recently announced first cohort of indie teams. The move, which stands in stark contrast to recent struggles at large Montreal studios such as EA, THQ, and Funcom, aims to create new opportunities for talented developers to pursue creative independence. In January, Execution Labs announced that five teams of indie developers from across Canada had signed on for its inaugural program.

“We didn’t plan to take additional teams for our first cohort, but we just couldn’t ignore the amazing talent in Montreal that has recently been ‘liberated’,” enthused Jason Della Rocca, co-founder of Execution Labs. “We hope we can serve as a platform for those who, after years of working for large game studios, want to go independent as the next step in their careers.”

The announcement by Execution Labs comes on the heels of the launch of “Lab Partners,” its free matchmaking service designed to help indie developers all over the world find each other and cross-promote their games. The intent of both initiatives is to further the incubator’s goal of helping game developers become true entrepreneurs who control their own intellectual property.

Creating additional seats in the first cohort is a move made possible only with the support of Execution Lab’s investors.
